Boston

Fenway Park

The Green Monster is a marvelous stadium and my favorite thing in Boston. Don’t miss the chance to catch a game. Know matter where your seats are you will feel the electric vibe and the old school charm of this venue. It is the heart of the city and the locals love their Red Sox’s.

Getting to the park can be time consuming depending on where you are coming from. Leave early and have a drink at a local bar or restaurant. There are also merchandise shops outside the stadium that you can pick up all your  memorabilia before the game. Once you go through security make your way to your area of the stadium but I do suggest walking in the main gate so you can check out the charm of the old stadium as you walk to your seats.

Every time there is a run watch the old school scoreboard get changed. Don’t miss the 7th inning stretch and sing Sweet Caroline and Take Me Out To The Ball Game with pride.

Enjoy a hot dog and beer or whatever treat is your favorite. My kids love the popcorn that comes in a Red Sox helmet.

Another piece of advice is that almost every game has some kind of publicity marketing campaign. Check out what is happening before you go. We missed a bobblehead give away one time and our sons were completely devastated that they did not get one.

Making your way in the world today takes everything you got. Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot!

When visiting Boston you will probably  cover a lot of ground. The sites are spread out and many of them you just have to walk. Plan to take a break at  Cheers. It’s an iconic stop in a pretty good location just to pop in and have a bite to eat and a beer.

If you ever enjoyed the show you will enjoy this experience.  You will learn how the original bar inspired the show and how the set design eventually ended up in the same spot as the inspiring bar. It is not exactly what you expect but it is worth it if you are in the city.

If you never saw the show or you just were not a fan this experience is not for you. You can find many other restaurants around town that will set your tastebuds on fire.

Paul Revere House and the Old North Church

The Paul Revere house is a great piece of history and the location helps make the Northend a perfect place to hang out while in Boston. You will go to the Northend for a meal anyway because there are so many good ones to chose from!

While visiting the Paul Revere house get a peek or take a tour of the Old North Church. There is a ton of history in Boston and every American learns in school about hanging the lanterns in the staple to warn if the British are coming by land or sea.

My suggestion for the perfect Northend tour:

Before you go read about the restaurants that interest you. I suggest getting an Italian meal as the Northend is known as the Italian district.  There are many favorites but try to make a reservation if they accept them. If not plan on waiting in line to get a table. Many of the best ones are small so they only have so many seats. A hack we would do is to make a later reservation for one but try to get into one that doesn’t take reservations. If we get in then we call and cancel the later reservation. This will also make the day of another group who will find an empty table last minute. If you don’t want Italian and you like oysters try to get into Neptune’s Oyster. They definitely don’t take reservations but stop by on your way and put your name in. They will call you when your table is ready!

Have the taxi/uber/lyft driver drop you right at the door of the Paul Revere House. It is a better street to get dropped off. Do the tour. It isn’t very expensive and it can be done in less than an hour. After walk through the streets of northend. Enjoy the few tourist shops along the way to the Old North Church. If you have time to go onto the grounds you should but if not enjoy the steeple from the end of the block and snap a picture. After dinner stop by Mike’s Pastry for a cannoli. See more about Mike’s below.

The northend sites are better with daylight so if you are visiting in the winter or your dinner reservations are on the earlier side make sure you see all the sights before the sun sets.

Home of the Cannoli!
